Sorry, but I have to disagree with several of your Claims, but I assume that it mostly stems from the Misinformation regarding Combat, which is floating around. Light Cavalry and Heavy Infantry are kind of middle-of-the-road jacks of all trades, so they'll round out a solid army. Horse Archers are somewhat overrated, and have been nerfed with bad tactics in the past.

Light Infantry and Archers aren't great, but they have their uses and, more importantly, are dirt cheap, and don't use much of your retinue cap, so they're your go-to when all you need is sheer numbers. Pikemen have some incredible tactics and defense stats for how little they cost, making it worthwhile to play as the Scots or the Italians. Heavy Cavalry and, to a certain extent, War Elephant units are real heavy hitters, especially if you need to assault in a siege, but just aren't that cost-effective, or as versatile as other units. Their use as retinues, however, are restricted to Bedouin, Egyptian, and Levantine cultures, while being mixed with Heavy Cavalry in Outremer culture. IMO, Camel Cavalry retinues are the best, as they have pretty well balanced stats, no terrain penalties (only bonuses in deserts), and only cost as much as Light Cavalry or Heavy Infantry, while being objectively at least as strong or better in almost every way.
